Hundreds missing as ferry sinks off Papua New Guine

Hundreds are missing feared dead after the ferry ‘Rabaul Queen’ sank off Papua New Guinea today with 350 people on board.  The Australian authorities are helping with rescue efforts, according to CNN. The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) has reported receiving a distress signal from ‘Rabaul Queen’.

General cargo vessel Eren Turgut suffered engine failure on Jan 27 under unclear circumstances, bound for Iskenderun from Galatz, Romania. As of morning Feb 02 vessel is in Tulcea, Romania, maybe under repairs.

Turkish Coastal Safety Administration published the crew list M/V Vera, Cambodian flag with Turkish owner, 114 metre river vessel. Vessel sank yesterday off Turkish coastal Black Sea town Eregli. Of total 11 crew members, 3 rescued (Including female cook, chief and second officer) the rest being searched in very difficult weather conditions.

The 114-metre coastal-river cargo ship Vera sank this evening at close proximity of  Eregli town of Turkey. 3 saved of a total 11 crewmembers.  Search for the missing crewmembers being carrieed out by Turkish Coast Guard.

Coast Guard officials said the "Delta Mariner" was in a recreational channel with less clearance than the shipping channel it should have used, where the lake depth is regularly maintained to allow for such vessels to pass.

Marshall County 911 confirms to Kentucky transportation officials that the US 68-KY 80 Eggner's Ferry Bridge has been hit by a large ship -97 meters long US flag ship Delta Mariner- and a portion of the bridge has collapsed.

Enroute Tuzla-Varna the "Rona" went adrift on Jan 27, 2012, at 05:43 a.m. 6 miles west of Kilyos in pos. 41 17'3 50'2 N 028o E and ran aground. The Istanbul Vessel Traffic Service sent the Coast Guard rescue boats "Kıyı Emniyeti 9" and "Kıyem 1" as well as the tugs "Kurtarma 9" and "Kurtarma 10".
Progress on Costa Concordia Salvage Operation

SMIT Salvage together with its partner Fratelli Neri have made good progress yesterday in the further preparations for the oil removal from the Costa Concordia. The Divers have inspected the forward section of the submerged underwatership of the ship and have marked the drilling locations of the heavy fuel oil tanks.
